Xiaomi is reportedly about to release a new sub-brand that will bring smartphones to tech enthusiasts. Xiaomi already has several sub-brands, so bringing in another seems unlikely, but a new report citing sources suggests otherwise.
Xiaomi wants to focus on tech enthusiasts with a mid-range smartphone priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 as mentioned in a report by Indian Mobile. The report doesn’t suggest a name for this sub-brand, but it does hint that Xiaomi might be bringing back the A-series in a new avatar. It also indicates that Xiaomi might bring the phones with Snapdragon 765G and Snapdragon 778 chipsets, depending on their price ranges.
It would be premature to talk about this range just yet, especially since Xiaomi hasn’t shared any official details about the supposed model. This segment is definitely the focus of brands these days. In fact, a recent industry report talked about the average selling price of smartphones in India rising from Rs 10,000 to well over Rs 15,000 in 2022.
This increase can be attributed to several factors, but the biggest one is that you hardly get a decent phone in the sub-Rs 12,000 bracket these days.
So it looks like people are willing to shell out a few extra bucks to get a capable phone that will last them a few years. OnePlus has the Nord range starting at Rs 18,000 in the market, and it is possible that Xiaomi will be brought another option for consumers in this segment.
Focusing on technicians means that Xiaomi will have to meet the needs of this consumer, and the software experience will be crucial to its success.
