Stalwart, 4 hours agoI like both 1III and 5III because of the design and capabilities but it’s just too much … moreThe price is inconvenient, but the biggest problem is the exit window. The S21 family was released 5 months ago, with similar AMD specs at a lower price. If it came out at $ 1,300 in February, I might have grumbled about the price, but I bought it anyway. Instead, it seems likely that it will launch closer to the S22 release date than the S21.

This forces me to wait for the announcement of Surface Duo 2 which should arrive a month or two later. I like the headphone jack on my G8, but I would find the Duo a more interesting / exciting device than the Xperia 1 III. I was able to fill in the gaps (especially the audio) of the Duo by keeping my G8 aside. The Xperia is more of a direct upgrade for my $ 600 G8, but more than double the cost.

S1713

I like both 1III and 5III because of the design and capabilities, but it’s just too expensive. This pricing simply kills the ability for it to sell as expected. I really hope they reconsider their decision and give the price a decent drop.

Anonymous, 8 hours agoWe got it. You hate Chinese brands because they have eliminated your beloved Sony from the smartphone.Unless you work for Chinese ODM companies, there is no reason to post such silly posts about market share and other junk. Chinese ODMs are the most popular because their phones are FREE on carrier contracts. As simple as that.

1iii is a little more expensive than 1ii, it will always be more popular.

Sony needs to charge $ 1450 for 1 iv.
People are going to buy anyway.

I bet other OEMs already have it, to tear down and copy the OPTICAL ZOOM.
Because it is the only current phone that has this functionality.

[deleted post]At least 8.51% of Japanese (May 2021) have chosen Sony smartphones, not their flagship.
Unlike the rest of the world, they have a wide range of smartphones in their home market – from budget models to flagships.

[deleted post]We got it. You hate Chinese brands because they have knocked your beloved Sony out of the smartphone market in most places. In 2021, Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Huawei are the best brands. Sony was left irrelevant.
No matter how much you hate Chinese brands or invent lies about them to justify your lower level Sony, it can never return to its glory days.

I really like Sony and 1III is one of the best feature-rich smartphones.
Unfortunately, I can’t afford to buy their smarphone.

Not P, P Pro, Pro + or Mate phones.
Nobody wants flagships.

Here in Germany, Media Markt and Saturn are offering the phones and will be delivered by the 1st week of August. Unappetizing package, however. I will wait for the Ebay sellers … So I will stay a little longer with my XZ Premium. Ugh.

Is that so? You give the impression that Sony has some relevance in Japan.
The last time I checked …

Apple = 67.33% (American)

Sony = 8.51% (Japanese)

Samsung = 5.79% (Korean)

Huawei = 4.96% (Chinese)

Sharp = 2.11% (Japanese)

Others = 3.96%

Sony has as much relevance as Chinese and Korean brands, both of which are on the lower side

Dometalican, 9 hours agoYes, but the processor also plays a good role in the price increases. I’m not telling you … MoreSD865 was $ 90 more than 855.
Still, most phones have $ 300-400.

The curved screen costs more than its flat counterpart.
The notch and hole increase the price of the screen.
More Hertz increases the price.
8 GB of ddr5 is 25% more expensive than 8 GB of ddr4x.

A few years ago with $ 300 you could buy the best components available.
Now you need around $ 600.

I doubt that in 2017 anyone who believed in 2020/21 OnePlus and Xiaomi would charge 1000 euros or more for their phones.
